GTA 5 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. What does it mean?
A bit of history
Back in 2001, PlayStation 2 and GTA 3 helped each other become financially successful. Now the Japanese with the Americans and the British decided not to reinvent the wheel again, and announced a collaboration with the show. The Grand Theft Auto series will have to once again become the locomotive that pulls the next generation of consoles.
The fact is that at the beginning of the life cycle, consoles are usually visited by "transfer" games, that is, those that came out on their predecessors. Really large AAA games come out at the start, but in small numbers - the world is just getting acquainted with the new game.
It is more surprising that it was GTA 5, which has already visited two generations of consoles, that the developers decided to port, and not their latest hit - Red Dead Redemption 2 (most likely, the western will be released on PS5 and Xbox Series X - for example, the Japanese promise more than 4 thousand games on backward compatibility system).
Sony's motivation is already clear - they need a big title to get started. From the Rockstar side, everything is also obvious - the studio is releasing its main product for a new, potentially huge, audience. Of course, milking an almost seven-year-old cow is devastating (not the game, but the players).
Support for GTA Online will probably last another 3-4 years, but we'll talk about Online later separately. Still, let's look at this from the other side. More platforms means more availability. Ned Luke, who played Michael, sees another positive moment in this - now the game can be played by someone who was too small at the time of previous releases.
What can we hope for?
The first version of the "five" was a run-in, the second has already been cut, the third may not be a revelation, but will only repeat the second. The game would be very cool to refresh the plot addition, which many began to dream of back in September 2013, immediately after passing the single-player mode. The developers seem to have abandoned this idea. But the story-driven DLC would be just that fresh highlight that would attract players anew.
This step seemed logical both seven and five years ago, it seems so now. It's also difficult to figure out how much better the game will look like. The footage shown in the trailers was shot on the PS4 version - this is indicated by the emblem in the upper right corner. According to the idea, it should be stable 60 frames per second (120 fps is credited to the console, but will it give them at the start?) At a resolution of 4K (example).
As for the other content, there will almost certainly be a new radio station (one at least). The collaboration between Rockstar and the New York band City Morgue became known back in November last year. The band's repertoire (hard hip-hop) is clearly not suitable for RDR, therefore it will sound in GTA 5.
My opinion
Despite some disappointment (from ecstatic joy to annoying disappointment in two moments of broadcast) of the community, you should not be upset about the release of GTA 5 on another generation of consoles. We are sure that he will be able to present many pleasant surprises.
